This poster was developed as part of a concept-driven project using historical memorabilia to create impactful visual storytelling. Centered around a reproduction of an original Freedom Ballot—an alternative voting document that included the Republican, Democratic, and Freedom Democratic Parties—the design seeks to confront the viewer and encourage introspection about civic engagement, justice, and personal responsibility. Inspired by the powerful activism of Fannie Lou Hamer, the poster serves as a visual echo of her unflinching commitment to challenging systemic injustices.
To bring authenticity and historical texture to the piece, I sourced a scan of the original Freedom Ballot from Google, printed it, and then hand-scanned the physical print to preserve its aged quality and nuanced details. I physically arranged the elements with care, balancing historical integrity with bold visual impact.
A previous version was presented to Fannie Lou Hamer’s daughter and a member of a local community project—bridging generations and reinforcing the message that the fight for equality continues.
